Festivals

Bun Khao Chi Festival
This fair takes place at Amphoe Pho Chai, in Roi Et. It's during the 2nd weekend of February.

Kin Khao Pun Bun Phawet
It's on the first Saturday-Sunday of March. The fair takes place in Somdet Phra Si Nakharin Park and at Bung Palang chai.

Buddhist Lent Candle Procession
This festival takes place on Asalha Puja Day at Somdet Phra Si Nakharin Park. The main feature is to carry the decorated Buddhist Lent Candles

Bun Bang Fai Festival
There are many rocket festivals in several Amphoes of the province during May and June.

NATIONAL MUSEUM  (พิพิธภัณฑ์สถานแห่งชาติ)

If you stay in Roi-Et more than a day, this is a nice place to visit and learn about this city. Old picture of the artificial lake and life in Issan country. Admission is 30 baht for foreigners. This museum was completed in 1997.

AQUARIUM

This aquarium is not big, but nice and brand new. Always a favorite for kids. Located beside the artificial lake (Bung Palang Chai). The highlight is the underwater tunnel through which you can watch movements of the fish above and beside you. The aquarium is open everyday (except Mondays, Tuesdays and public holidays) from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The entry fee is 30 baht. For more details, call Tel. 0 4351 1286.Admission 30 baht.

TEMPLES

Wat Burapha Phiram is supposed to be the most beautiful. It has the tallest standing Buddha in the world! You can see this tall Buddha from almost anywhere in the city.

PARKS

Bung Palang Chai (The park in the center of Roi-Et) and it’s artificial lake is a nice place to have a rest. You can buy food to feed the fish for 10 baht a bag. Around 5 to 7 PM , Thai people enjoy running around the lake and aerobic dancing starts around 7 PM. Basketball and other sports are practiced every day.

MASSAGE   (นวด)

The small street in front of Roi-Et city Hotel has a massage shop where you can have traditional Thai massage, 2 hours, for 240 baht. You CAN’T have only one hour. The windows are black and it’s written MASSAGE in English outside.

At the bus station, there is also a place with blind masseurs and masseuses. One hour is 100 baht. Small shop, in a corner.

The cheapest place in town is the woman jail where inmates (women) gives massage for 1 baht per minute. This place closes at 3 PM . Take the big street beside the city hall that goes to Roi-Et Hospital . Continue on  the same street and you will see the prison at your right (big walls).  The massage shop is in front of the prison.

BANKS      (ธนาคาร)

Only one branch of Bangkok Bank can change your foreign currencies (and maybe some hotels). You will find the bank near #18.

NEWSPAPERS  (หนังสือพิมพ์)

‘The Bangkok Post’ and ‘The Nation’ could be found at a newspaper stand near the lake. (Map #12)

AIRPLANE

Flights between Bangkok and Roi-Et are available almost everyday for around 2180 baht. Ask a travel agency or your hotel.
